Graph theory approach to exceptional points in wave scattering

چکیده

Abstract In this paper, we use graph theory to solve wave scattering problems in the discrete dipole approximation. As a key result of work, presence active scatterers, present systematic method find arbitrary large-order zero eigenvalue exceptional points (EPs). This is achieved by solving set non-linear equations that interpret, picture, as vanishing sums events. We then show how total field system responds parameter perturbations at EP. Finally, investigate sensitivity power output imaginary perturbation design frequency. can be employed trade for different dissipation balance system. The purpose results paper manifold. On one hand, aim shed light on link between and scattering. other application all those settings where EPs play unique role like coherent perfect absorption structures.

Fano profiles in scattering around exceptional points

In a previous paper it has been shown that the interference of the first and second order pole of the Green’s function at an exceptional point, as well as the interference of the first order poles in the vicinity of the exceptional point, gives rise to asymmetric scattering cross section profiles. In the present paper we demonstrate that these line profiles are indeed well described by the Beut...

Resonance scattering at third-order exceptional points

We analyze scattering cross sections at and near third-order exceptional points (EP3), i.e., points in physical parameter space where three energies and eigenfunctions coincide. At an EP3, the Green’s function contains a pole of third order, in addition to poles of second and first order. We show that the interference of the three pole terms produces a rich variety of line shapes at the excepti...

Fano-Feshbach resonances in two-channel scattering around exceptional points

It is well known that in open quantum systems resonances can coalesce at an exceptional point, where both the energies and the wave functions coincide. In contrast to the usual behaviour of the scattering amplitude at one resonance, the coalescence of two resonances invokes a pole of second order in the Green’s function, in addition to the usual first order pole. We show that the interference d...

General theory of spontaneous emission near exceptional points.

We present a general theory of spontaneous emission at exceptional points (EPs)-exotic degeneracies in non-Hermitian systems. Our theory extends beyond spontaneous emission to any light-matter interaction described by the local density of states (e.g., absorption, thermal emission, and nonlinear frequency conversion). Whereas traditional spontaneous-emission theories imply infinite enhancement ...

Exceptional points in atomic spectra.

We report the existence of exceptional points for the hydrogen atom in crossed magnetic and electric fields in numerical calculations. The resonances of the system are investigated and it is shown how exceptional points can be found by exploiting characteristic properties of the degeneracies, which are branch point singularities. A possibility for the observation of exceptional points in an exp...
